Civil

by Mark Granier

One of my grandfather’s brothers, Charlie,
approached my aunt’s husband-to-be
at their engagement party,

and said to Pat, this fiancé
Charlie had never met –– moreover,
said with a smile, as if it were a joke

worth sharing –– ‘We shot your uncle.’
