Poetry as Commemoration Workshop with Catherine Ann Cullen

Explore letters, documents, & photos from the War of Independence & Civil War held in UCD Special Collections and use them as inspiration for your own commemorative poem. Participants will be invited to submit their work to UCD Special Collections for future generations to read.

Poetry as Commemoration, a UCD Library initiative supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media, under the Decade of Centenaries 2012-2023 programme.

West Cork Literary Festival – Teen Workshops

Join poet David McLoghlin for two FREE Poetry Workshops using letters, photos, and documents from Ireland 100 years ago as creative inspiration.

Saturday 8th July from 11.00am – 1.00pm.

AND

Sunday 9th July from 11.00am – 1.00pm.

These workshops are aimed at young writers from 14-17 years. No prior experience required. Participants should attend both workshops.

Participants will respond to local and national archival material from the War of Independence & the Civil War and afterwards they will be invited to submit their work to a special Poetry as Commemoration archive which will be housed in UCD Special Collections. Participants who have family stories or materials relating to the revolutionary period are invited to share these, but no family connection is necessary and all are welcome.
