A hundred years ago, Ireland was at war. To understand and reimagine the experiences of local people caught up in the Civil War, you’re invited to two writing workshops. With the help of Kildare County Archivist Karel Kiely, and author Debbie Thomas, you’ll explore documents and other materials dating from the war – from letters, newspapers and artefacts to your own family stories – and use them to inspire a poem or other creative piece.

Your work will join that of other local groups across Ireland and be preserved in UCD Special Collections. As you engage creatively with the past, so your writing will inspire future generations to understand the history that has shaped our country.
